UFC 229 Weigh in : Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov are now just hours away from their huge UFC 229 main event, but first they must make weight. The fight is for the UFC lightweight title, so each fighter must weigh-in at 155lbs (11st 1lb) the day before the bout.McGregor has never had weight-cutting issues in the past, but Khabib has, missing the limit against Abel Trujillo in 2013 and cancelling a fight with Tony Ferguson in 2017 over a botched cut. Will there be drama ahead of the huge fight on Saturday night? Or will McGregor and Khabib make the lightweight limit? It’s official. Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his UFC lightweight title against Conor McGregor on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Both men made weight on Friday morning as did every fighter scheduled to compete on the card. The champion wasted no time climbing on the scales to make championship weight. In fact, Nurmagomedov was first to the scales. He weighed in at a ready 155 pounds. The last two fighters to weigh in provided the most drama of the day. Aspen Ladd, who looked to be visibly shaking after stepping on the scales, struggled but made the bantamweight limit by weighing in at 134.5.McGregor accused Khabib of being “petrified” and insisted his rivalry with the Russian will not end after this weekend’s grudge bout.
McGregor is set to end a near two-year hiatus from the octagon at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas against the person who succeeded him as UFC lightweight champion. The pair were set to face off at a news conference, open to the public, at 3pm local time on Thursday but McGregor’s late arrival at Park Theater led to a prompt Nurmagomedov conducting his media duties before walking out.The Irishman suggested that may have been one of the reasons his foe refused to hang around and continued his war of words.
McGregor, who blamed Las Vegas traffic when he turned up 10 minutes after Nurmagomedov had departed, said: “He knew what he signed up for, I’ve been later than this.”The traffic is a little heavy, there must be a McGregor fight going on. (But) I did not plan this, I tried to get here.”I’m only a couple of minutes late. He should have stayed put. He doesn’t want to be around me, he doesn’t want to be around these people. He is petrified.”My heart is black towards this man, towards his team, towards his people, I can truly see the inside of that man’s head and smile.”
